Forest School - Outdoor Learning at Sheddingdean!
At Sheddingdean we love getting outside to discover and learn. Each class has half a term of focused 'Forest School' each year where they learn a range of skills and build on their knowledge in art, science, PSHCE, English and DT. Some of the planned sessions happen on-site in our 'Secret Garden', we also visit Bedelands Nature Reserve as part of our outdoor curriculum. In addition to forest school, teachers take learning outside wherever possible to support mental wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.
Below are some of the learning experiences the children enjoy during their forest school sessions.
- campfire lighting
- creating tools and simple structures using natural materials
- den building
- natural sculpting
- pond dipping
- building mini-beast homes and hotels
We ask that children wear comfortable outdoor clothes on their forest school days including long trousers and sensible closed toe shoes. We learn outside in all weathers!
