Science at Sheddingdean Community Primary school
Intent.
At Sheddingdean Primary school, we believe scientific wonder at the world is inspired by enjoyable exploration and practical discovery. Our science curriculum provides pupils with lessons rooted in scientific enquiry with practical hands-on experiences. Through our curriculum, pupils will achieve a deeper understanding of the world and universe that surrounds them and promote respect for the living and non-living things on our planet. By working together, pupils and teachers can succeed in scientific experimentation and be inspired by each other’s achievements.
Throughout the programmes of study, the children will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group, as well as the application of scientific skills. We ensure that the Working Scientifically skills (such as asking questions and making predictions) are built-on and developed throughout children’s time at school so that they can apply their knowledge of science when using equipment, conducting experiments, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently.
We want our children to love science. We want them to understand the exciting opportunities a career in the sciences can offer and for them to dare to dream. We want our children to remember their science lessons in our school, to cherish these memories and embrace the scientific opportunities they are presented with!
